May 18 - June 1, 2015
Our initial port of call was in Alaska’s first incorporated city. After breakfast, Sam and I set out for a walk along Ketchikan Creek. We had to backtrack and go down some stairs to Creek Street, the site of Ketchikan’s Red Light District in former times. Continuing on by the boat marina, we walked through the downtown area and back to the ship for lunch.
In the afternoon, Al did a little more sightseeing in town and then took a walk along the waterfront promenade toward the city’s West End area.
There was still a lot of daylight when the ship left and proceeded Northwest up the Tongass Narrows past seaplane bases and marinas. The Alaskan days at this time of the year are 18 hours long.
