Icy Strait Point required the Statendam passengers to ride the tender to the site of the old salmon cannery. It is now a tourist area with a museum, restaurants, shops, a nice walking trail, and a zipline. It is privately owned by native Americans of the Hoonah Totem Corporation and dedicated to the preservation of their culture.
Sam decided to stay on the ship and Al went ashore. After seeing the museum and taking a leisurely walk around the nature trail, I took a shuttle bus for two miles into the mostly Tlingit town of Hoonah. It is a typical Alaskan small town with a fishing boat harbor. There are sea life and wildlife tours available.
After walking around for a few hours, I returned to the cannery and caught the tender back to the ship.
